19 FEB 1985 - Coast Guard LORAN Station Iwo Jima served as the on-island hosts for the 1st-ever reunion of US and Japanese veterans of the battle of Iwo Jima (celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Iwo Jima).  It was celebrated as the Reunion of Honor on 19 Feb 1985 and was documented in a television documentary produced by Arnold Shapiro and narrated by Ed McMahon.  Over 2000 US and Japanese veterans returned to Iwo Jima to commemorate this event.
